Man sentenced to prison for drug and witness tampering
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A Houston man has been sentenced to prison for his involvement in drug smuggling and witness tampering.
Julian Luna-Nieto, 41, was handed a 28 year prison sentence for methamphetamine trafficking and for tampering with witnesses by using intimidation and threats.
On February 16, 2012, Nieto was a passenger in a vehicle attempting to cross at the Gateway International port of entry when Custom officers inspected the vehicle and found over 27 pounds of crystallized meth.
Nieto pleaded guilty to the narcotics charges and after being indicted, Nieto prepared a threatening letter against a cooperating witness to influence the witness's testimony.
