Man demands award money, instead gets jail time
HARLINGEN, TX (NEWS CENTER 23) — On Thursday, June 27, in the late evening, police were dispatched to the 1900 block of W. Tyler Ave, in reference to an assault by threat.
Upon arrival the officer made contact with the victim who reported that her and two friends made arrangements with a man about recovering her lost cell phone.
When the man, later identified as Juan Orlando Gonzalez, 43, he threatened her when she refused to pay him an reward for her phone.
As Gonzalez walked away, he pulled out his shirt displaying a knife and threatening the victim if she called police.
Police located the Gonzalez on the 1800 block of W. Tyler Ave. and the victim positively identified him.
Gonzalez was placed under arrest and charged for disorderly conduct, and displaying a weapon, his bond was set at $2,000.
