Elderly woman arrested for possession of stolen i-Pad

Harlingen police arrested an elderly woman for theft after the GPS feature from an iPad tracks the device to her residence.

On Thursday, May 22nd Harlingen police were called to a home on the 600 block of Lewis Lane in reference to stolen property.

The victim informed officers that his home, located on the 5300 block of Hurd Court, had been burglarized the night before and a Apple iPad, valued at $700, had been stolen.

Through the GPS feature the victim was able to track the device to a home on Lewis Lane. Police questioned an elderl, Maria Elena Ruiz, 72, at the location who had the iPad in her possession but who refused to cooperate with police on how she gained possession of the tablet.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Ruiz and she was arrested and charged with theft by possession and handed a $2,500 bond.
