Driver, in three vehicle accident, charged with manslaughter

A Brownsville man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter for his involvement in a three vehicle accident.

On Tuesday, June 4, Harlingen police officers and EMS responded to a accident involving three vehicles at the intersection of South H Street and West Buchanan Avenue.

Investigators were able to discover the cause of accident was the driver, Troy Mathew Soria, 20, of Brownsville, who was operating a 2001 Chevy Suburban northbound on H Street and disregarded a yield sign.

Soria then struck a Toyota van, traveling eastbound on Buchanan Avenue causing it to flip then roll over and striking a Chevy S-10 truck, traveling westbound on Buchanan Avenue.

The three occupants in the Toyota van, an adult female driver and a elderly male and female, were transported to a local hospital for their injuries as well as a female passenger in the vehicle Soria was driving.

Soria was arrested on traffic violations and and later that day released on a $763 cash bond.

On Wednesday, June 5, the elderly female in the Toyota van, Roberta Garza, 84, died from her injuries.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant on Soria for manslaughter and he turned himself in to authorities on Thursday with a bond accessed at $75,000.
