Driver charged with tampering with evidence after attempting to eat marijuana
HARLINGEN, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A Harlingen man, stopped for a traffic violation, is arrested for possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence after attempting to eat the contraband.
On Thursday, May 22nd right before midnight, a Harlingen police officer conducted a traffic stop on a black and red Dodge Ram, at the intersection of Stuart Place Road and Frontage, for failure to stop.
When the officer approached the truck he detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and identified the driver as Mario Sylvestre De La Garza, 28. During a search of the truck the officer found a plastic bag containing marijuana and it was determined that De La Garza was attempting to destroy the evidence by eating it.
De La Garza was arrested and taken to jail where during the booking process he informed officers that he had concealed another bag of marijuana in his pants. He was charged with possession of marijuana, tampering with evidence and handed a $10,750 bond.
