Driver charged for evading and resisting arrest

A driver has been charged with evading and resisting arrest after a high speed chase with San Benito police.

Police arrested Luis Herrera, 30, after he led police in a high speed chase when he refused to pull over. Police say the vehicle Herrera was driving was taken without the owner's permission.

Police located the  vehicle and attempted to pull Herrera over but he refused  and led them in a chase through downtown and finally ending at a residence on the 500 block of East Robertson Street.

Herrera was spotted running through several properties and found by police hiding under a home on South Bonham and he was arrested. Police report that he struggled with authorities when then attempted to handcuff him.

The owner of the vehicle, Herrera's girlfriend, refused to press criminal charges. Police did charge Herrera with evading arrest using a motor vehicle, evading arrest on foot and resisting arrest.

Herrera's bail was set at $29,000 and he has been booked into the Cameron county jail.
