Car chase ends with driver resisting arrest, attempting to flee and assaulting officers
BROWNSVILLE, TX (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — A Brownsville man, who lead police in a car chase, is arrested on several charges of assault and possession of cocaine.
On Saturday, July 19th officers were dispatched to the area of Boca Chica Blvd and Billy Mitchell Blvd. in regards to a vehicle emitting sparks for the undercarriage.
Officers located the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop but the driver continued to operate the car recklessly through neighborhood streets striking two other vehicles and a tree causing the car to become disabled.
The driver, later identified as Miguel Angel Arizmendi, 22, then fled on foot and during the chase assaulted two officers before being apprehended on the 4700 block of Garcia Lane. After his apprehension officers did find Arizmendi in possession of cocaine.
Arizmendi was charged with aggravated assault on a public servant, assault on a public servant, possession of a controlled substance, evading arrest with a motor vehicle, evading arrest on foot, resisting arrest, resisting transport and two counts of duty upon striking a motor vehicle and a bond of $65,000.
