It took jurors less than two hours to render a guilty verdict Friday against Francisco Matamoros, 43, on continuous sexual
abuse of a child.

The Cameron County District Attorney’s Office was successful in utilizing Jessica’s Law that was enacted in 2007. The
Law, named after Jessica Lunsford, a young Florida girl who was sexually battered and murdered in 2005,
allows for some of the nation’s harshest punishments for individuals committing continuous sexual abuse of a

Matamoros, a Harlingen resident, was found guilty of one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child and two counts of
sexual assault of a child .The victim, now 16, stated that the abuse began when she was in the fourth grade.

Assistant District Attorneys Stephanie Rollins and Brandy Bailey prosecuted the case in the 357th state District Court.
Rollins and Bailey comprise the newly-created Child Abuse Unit. Both credit the guilty verdict to the jury.

“The verdict demonstrates that Cameron County takes a firm stance against child abuse,” Bailey said. “It is very difficult
for a child to have an outcry and then proceed with potentially testifying against a family member. The jury understood
this and took all the testimony and evidence seriously on the child’s behalf.”

Matamoros could face a life sentence. Minimum sentence for Jessica’s Law is 25 years with no opportunity for parole or
early release.

Sentencing is scheduled for Monday.

These 2 will do anything to get a win, lie, threaten and intimidate a young witness just to get a conviction whether there is proof or not. Guy's before you start throwing all men to the death penalty learn something about the cases and you will wonder about justice!
