Burglars steal bird cage, get caught, now behind bars

Two men are arrested and charged for several burglaries in the Harlingen area.

On Thursday, June 6, around 1:30 a.m. police were called to the 2000 block of North G Street in regards to a female's apartment being burglarized.

According to eye witnesses, two men, identified as Edwin Aldo Dominguez, 30, and Johnathan Michael Valdez, 19, had kicked in the door to the victim's apartment and had taken a 37" LCD television and a DVD player without the victim's consent.

A few hours later, that same morning, a patrol officer was dispatched to the 100 block of N. Rose Street in reference to suspicious activity .

While patrolling the area, the officer made contact with Dominguez and Valdez, who were carrying a bird cage, with two parakeets inside, and believed stolen from the 2600 block of Rose Street.

The officer also found a wallet, which was stolen from inside a vehicle, and later determined taken from the 100 block of N. Rose Street.

Subsequently, both men were linked to the burglary of the apartment on North G Street and also charged with that crime.

Dominguez and Valdez were both arrested and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle, criminal trespass, theft and public intoxication with Dominguez receiving a bond of $159,000 and Valdez's bond has not been set.
