For many, it's a pile of broken dreams, cut up credit cards from people trying to turn around their financial history and repair their credit scores. Credit Counselor Manuel Navarro says, "They are desperate they are panicking, because their situation is changing and it's something they hadn't gone through in the past."

This is the time of the year when people are stressed about paying off those holiday bills, so many are vulnerable and they will do anything to fix their credit.  However, the Better Business Bureau of South Texas is cautioning consumers.  Dolores Salinas says,
"The better business bureau does not recommend that consumers hire a credit repair company or to work with them to help you fix your credit problems." That's because many of them make false promises and want money upfront and don't even assess your situation before hand.

Meanwhile, financial experts say the problem is people want financial solutions now, but it takes time and anyone that promises they can do it in a hurry, then you want to be cautious.  They suggest to repair your credit on your own, it may take some time, but it can be done.  The first step is to go online and print copies of your credit reports and then work on a plan to pay things off.  Experts say this is a good way to avoid being ripped off or having to over pay someone.
