Man tries to kill himself moments after being sentenced to 40 years in prison.

A man slit his own throat in a Dallas, Texas courtroom Tuesday moments after a judge sentenced him to 40 years in prison.

Marcial Aguiano took out a hidden razor blade and began cutting at his throat as the judge handed down the sentence for his conviction of aggravated assault.

Investigators say a court bailiff confiscated a razor blade from a disposable razor issued at the jail from Aguiano before the incident, but he had another that he managed to keep hidden.

Aguinao survived and was taken away on a stretcher.

Aguiano, a 47-year-old from the Dallas suburb of Duncanville, blamed drugs for his behavior.

Officials say the blade cut a muscle but not an artery.

No one else was injured.
