CAMERON COUNTY - County commissioner Ernie Hernandez is wanting to replace the outdated animal shelter located on FM 510 in San Benito.

The shelter has been in operation since 1985 and the current staff say they can only hold about fifty animals at the location, but that number is the same number they collect in a week. With so many animals coming into the shelter the majority of them have to be euthanized. Commissioner Hernandez stated, "Hopefully we can put it on the agenda and I can sell the commissioners and the county judge, I think they will support it. It's the funding, the money is always the issue, so any kind of support and maybe pressure calling for county officials saying we need this would certainly help my cause."
