Dozens of Valley residents joined five Congressmen and other local officials in voicing their support for immigration reform on Saturday in Port Isabel.

The public forum covered topics like, pathways to citizenship, border security without fencing and the impact immigration reform would have on the economy.

Local citizens and officials discussed the potential benefits of immigration reform including easier methods of legalization.

The Congressmen say this would not only benefit eleven million undocumented immigrants, but also our economy, Congressman Vela, "We have to figure out a rational legalization process to make these folks who are working in our kitchens, working in our fields, a pathway to legalization."

Congressman Beto O'Rourke stated, "It's great for this country. It'll mean billions upon billions of dollars of positive economic growth in the Untied States at a time that we need it. It's adding to the labor force at a time that we need it for our country's labor demands and we also need it for programs like social security."
