Congressman Vela addresses Mexican cartel violence in DC
BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS (KVEO NEWSCENTER 23) — Congressman Filemon Vela addressed the issue of cartel violence in Tamaulipas to Homeland Security.
US government officials spoke about the importance of creating a relationship with the federal government in Mexico.
He says they can take the diplomatic steps necessary in order to lessen the issue of Mexican cartel violence.
Vela says there will be programs in place to help with this.
As of right now though, the Congressman says the government is still trying to get everything officialized so they can have a working relationship with Mexico.
"It's just time that the state department and the administration work with the federal government in Mexico, uh, you know to clean up and make the state of Tamaulipas a safe place for people to live and for people to do business and for us to go visit," said US Congressman Filemon Vela.
Congressman Vela says he hopes that in addressing the issue in DC, the congressional government can see how serious the situation really is.
