It is now known what caused Cameron county's 911 system to crash last week, a computer glitch. Two servers failed to process emergency calls due to a software problem which caused the system to crash and affect several county law enforcement departments last Thursday. New software is being installed to avoid a repeat of the problem as BPD Communications employee Raul Rodriguez stated, "There is no specifics as to what caused the glitch it may have been any issue having to do with the combination of the server and the software. However the upgrades should resolve any issues. In addition to that, AT&T and the software vendor are both paying closer attention and providing more remote monitoring in the meantime to make sure this doesn't happen again."
