Police say around 6am Thursday they found the body of former Harlingen mayor 55 year old Richard Rodriguez at the intersection of 5th and Tyler, which is just a couple blocks from his home.

"At this time he may have been jogging in the area and possibly collapsed, we are investigating to see if there were signs of foul play but at this point it looks like he was jogging and collapsed to the ground."said Sgt. Dave Osborn.

Police say he may have suffered from a heart attack.
Connie Rees is Rodriguez's neighbor. Rees said she talked with Rodriguez on Wednesday.
She says she takes care of the families dog Barney when he runs into her yard.
Rees says rodriguez will be greatly missed.

"They have three college daughters they come back, the mother and father seem to be very much in love, they are always in back hugging each other, he sees her off to work, just talking to him, wow."

Mayor Chris Boswell was a city commissioner at the time Rodriguez took office as the mayor in 2004. Rodriguez served one term, and chose not to run again.

"Family man, was devoted concerned about the community wanting to move the community forward and just a very friendly guy."said Boswell.
