LA JOYA - With the cold weather, many people wonder if crime across the Upper Valley slows down or picks up?

La Joya Police said generally climate change really doesn't have much affect on local or border crime.

Public Information Officer, Joe Cantu, said no matter the temperature, his officers patrol the streets the same way.

He said he's seen all types of crime on hot days and cold ones too.

"The weather does not deter drugs from coming across or illegals from coming across the river. We've had cold days, where on a traffic stop they'll be people soaked, where they just crossed the river," said Joe Cantu, La Joya Police PIO.

Cantu said weather aside, their biggest goal is to keep open communication between all law enforcement agencies to better patrol the border, highways and local neighborhoods.
