Coast Guard Seizes Dumped Cocaine
Dozens of bails dumped by smugglers under pursuit recovered from sea.
Millions of dollars worth of cocaine has been seized by the Coast Guard in two separate incidents off the Florida coast.
Crew members aboard the cutter "Tampa" recovered more than 75 bales of cocaine from the waters near Panama.
It's estimated to be worth about $55 million.
The bust occurred after a Canadian patrol aircraft spotted suspected smugglers and alerted the ship which was patrolling in the area.
Meanwhile, about $45 million worth of cocaine was brought into the port in St. Petersburg.
That seizure took place near Puerto Rico.
Officials say there has been a recent rise in crime in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
They've recently ramped up Coast Guard presence in the waters hoping to stem the tide of illegal drug trafficking.
