Clashes Continue Between Drug Cartel Members in Mexico

A deadly shooting between Zetas and Gulf Cartel members ends in a bloodbath. According to Mexican sources, several members from each drug cartel organization died in a weekend shootout, all this happening in Valle Hermoso, a city near Matamoros. The shootings that began Friday and ended Sunday left eight gunmen dead.

Although Mexican authorities have not released information on the weekend’s firefights, a source tells News Center 23, these shootings did not involve Mexican Army or police. It was a clash between the two rival organizations.

The source, who does not want to be identified for security purposes, says the most violent attack happened Friday afternoon.

What Mexican officials are saying is that they have nabbed one of the founders of the Zetas Drug Cartel. Flavio Mendez Santiago was arrested during a raid in Oaxaca, México. Mendez was on the list of the 37 most dangerous criminals in México.

And just yesterday, the Mexican Army confirmed seizures made last week throughout the Tamaulipas state resulted in the seizure of more than four tons of Marijuana. The exact weight? 8,050 pounds. 260 small bags of Cocaine, 52 assault rifles, 11 handguns, 12 grenades, 448 ammunition magazines, 8,647 ammunition rounds, one armored SUVs, 46 vehicles and the arrest of 37 suspects.
