City Reacts to the Death of Army SPC. Kurt Kern
McALLEN - The City of McAllen is mourning the death of local fallen soldier Kurt Kern who was killed in action in Afghanistan.
The United States Army reported Kern's death and circumstances surrounding his death have not been released, but the Army confirms that he died in the line of duty. Family and friends gathered at the home of Kern's parents and they are asking the public for privacy during this difficult time. Sources say the family received word of his death on Tuesday evening and his death came as a shock to McAllen Memorial Athletic Director Bill Littleton.
Mr. Littleton said, 'I just remember him as a hard working young man who played football for us here at McAllen Memorial and he was a good kid. I'm just sorry that it happened. I'm sure Kurt was doing what he wanted to do and I say that every time a young man loses his life doing what he loved. He tried to make this a better country so you appreciate what he's done.
The McAllen I.S.D. Superintendent James Ponce released a statement on it's website in regards to the death of Kurt Kern.
