WESLACO  - Earlier this month we reported on the future of the Mid-Valley Airport was uncertain, but now city officials say the airport will be up and running for years to come.

The City of Weslaco and the Economic Development Corporation have developed a three year plan to promote the airport. Officials have been trying to decide what direction the airport will take for quite some time and the decision was to make it grow. The airport has brought in millions of dollars to the area and hopes are promoting it more will bring even more business to the city.

Weslaco Homeland Security Director George Garrett said, "We haven't really marketed it, that's part of the problem. If they don't know we're here, they're not going to come. We need to make people aware that we are open for business, we encourage them to come. We look forward to doing business with people south of us."

The airport opened a federal customs building over six months ago and plans to expand the runway by several feet. Officials hope this will draw even more business to the area.
