City officials gather for Hands Across the Border event

As in years past, this is the weekend when two countries untie to celebrate their friendship, Na'Tassia Finley was at the Gateway International port of entry when the two sister cities gathered.

For seven decades now, the two cities that are separated by the Rio Grande river, have come together to celebrate, Brownsville Mayor Tony Martinez, "We are binational, bicultural, bilingual, but the truth is we are one big family."

On Thursday city officials from Brownsville and Matamoros, Mexico, along with Mr. Amigo, Mariana Seoane, gathered in the center of the Gateway port of entry to exchange gifts and kind words.
