City of Weslaco to Name Police Chief by February

WESLACO  - The City of Weslaco is narrowing down the candidates for the position of Chief of Police.

The city has been searching for a new leader since the previous chief, Juan Sifuentes, resigned back in October of 2011. More than twenty five people have applied for the position and that number has been narrowed down to ten. The police department has been through five police chiefs and interim chiefs in just the last three years. City Manager Leo Olivares is planning to give the list of candidates to the city commission on the 17th and hopes in a decision being made by mid-February.
