SAN BENITO - A revised city ordinance could bar demonstrations and protests at the new San Benito Veterans war memorial with a proposition to declare the memorial as a non-public forum.

The designation would allow the city to prohibit demonstrations or protests near or around the memorial. San Benito Veteran's Advisory Board Chairman Victor Garza supports the new ordinance, "It is very important for all of our Veteran families, it is a place of great respect. I hope that everyone will take ownership of this because it belongs to the community and that is what the ordinance seeks to do. It needs to be respected and that's what we are asking for.
