The City of Pharr is taking the top spot in sales tax revenue in the entire Valley, which could mean good news for people living there.

The city saw a 13% growth of sales tax monies coming in August which means more residents in Pharr are spending money than any other residents in the Valley. City officials say that this is the first time in at least three years that Pharr was ranked first in sales tax growth compared to other regional cities. Tax breaks may happen for residents living in Pharr if the current sales tax rate maintains itself.

Pharr Finance Director Juan Guerra says that the city had four consecutive months of positive sales tax growth and it's an indication of the local economy. The other top cities in the Valley with sales tax growth are San Benito, Edinburg, Mission and Alamo.
