It's now illegal to driver and text, email and search the web on your cell phone in the City of Penitas and costing you up to $200 dollars.

Police say people are not paying enough attention to the road while driving and the ordinance was issued back in February and is now in effect. Police say even texting at a stop light will cost you and police will enforce the law in an effort to increase public safety. Police Chief Bermea says the department is only issuing warnings right now, but will enforce the ordinance soon.
