The City of McAllen is building a Downtown Park-n-Ride facility to provide parking to those who visit the area.

The station will operate as a Park-n-Ride stop for two of the McAllen Metro bus routes as well as the weekend Trolley service that runs downtown.

There will also be solar lit amenities and bike racks located at the facility.

The estimated cost for the project is about $232,000 dollars, with 80 percent of the cost covered by a Federal Transit Admnistration Grant awarded to the transit department last August.

"It's gonna help alleviate congestion and make it more convenient for those wishing to visit our area downtown," said Mario Delgado, Acting Transit Director for the City of McAllen.  "Whether it's for shopping, those who work downtown, or for entertainment, for leisure, they'll have a place to park."

The Park-n-Ride facility will be located on the corner of South Bicentennial and Austin.

Delgado says construction will start as early as next week and will be completed in about two months.
