The City of McAllen says they're backing up plans for SpaceX Rocket launch site to be placed in cameron county.
This week recently elected city Mayor Jim Darling says he fully supports the plan and thinks it will bring better recognition to the valley.

Darling says, "I think it kind of puts us on the map, something from Brownsville, Texas it kind of benefits us all in the valley. "
If the plans do follow through, Spacex exploration technlogies headed by Billionaire Elon Musk would launch rockets from beachfront property near the U.S. Mexico border.

However, SpaceX must first clear several regulatory hurdles before shifting operations from Cape Canaveral, Florida close to Boca Chica.  Two other locations are still in the running for the new operation.

Economically the center could bring a big boost into our local economy, we're talking about 600 new jobs with average salaries of $55,000.
