The City of McAllen Transit Department will host a groundbreaking tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. to kick off construction of its Downtown Park-n-Ride facility. The Park-n-Ride is designed to help alleviate congestion in McAllen’s Downtown area as well as provide additional parking options for patrons of Downtown, whether it be for shopping, work or entertainment.

Last August, the City of McAllen was awarded a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Capital Grant. Part of the funds awarded under this grant will be utilized to support the Park-n-Ride station. The estimated cost of the facility is $232,000 of which the FTA grant will cover 80 percent.

The facility will have solar lit shelter amenities as well as bike racks and seating for those wishing to use the Park-n-Ride. Additionally, this area has been identified as a future site for a Bike Share Station.

This is great! We live in Tucson and plan on having a big party at the Centennial restaurant and than go to Cine El Rey on Oct 20. This will be around 11 a.m. till about 2 p.m. Can we use this service for free?
We're talking about 50 people which would means about 50 vehicles. If not where would we park. Any suggestions? Sure would appreciate it. EM Address is vrangel123@msn.com. Thank you so much.
