Hundreds of families in McAllen will now enjoy a Thanksgiving meal after getting a free turkey on Wednesday morning.

The City of McAllen and McAllen Crime Stoppers hosted the event handing out main ingredients for a traditional Thanksgiving meal to nearly 130 families.

Boxes filled with food were distributed outside the McAllen Police Department and all the supplies were raised through the Crime Stoppers organization.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez commented, "We work with the school district to identify the families that may be in the greatest need. So through that process we think that we've identified the families that really need it. In these cases, were it not for this, some of these families would not enjoy the Thanksgiving that most of us take for granted."
