EDINBURG - Edinburg City Manager Ramiro Garza Jr. announced on Monday that he is taking unpaid leave of absence in order to run for Congress in the newly re-drawn District 27 seat.

Garza says this is a jump he's ready to take and having served in local government in Port Isabel and Edinburg that he knows the Valley well and knows how to help with issues like unemployment. Mr. Garza stated, "We need to put people back to work, I know how to do that, we have done that here very successfully not only in Port Isabel, but in Edinburg. There has been about 10,000 jobs we have created here in Edinburg since the year 2000."

Garza's platform also highlights improvements in education, transportation and healthcare. Edinburg Mayor Richard Garcia says an acting city manager will be named on December 6th to replace Garza.
