City Commissioner Sentenced to Jail
HARLINGEN - City commissioner Kori Marra has been sentenced to thirty days in jail for her involvement in a conflict of interest case.
After listening to a dozen witnesses, on behalf of Marra, visiting judge Manuel Banales sentenced the commissioner to thirty days in jail and a $500 dollar fine. Marra might not be spending any time behind bars soon because of a pending appeal which could take months or maybe years. Marra's attorney, Larry Warner, stated, "She's disappointed, but I'm pleased to have the responsibility of dealing with her motion of a new trial and her appeal if the trial judge doesn't give us a new trial, of course we will proceed with an appeal."
About two weeks ago, a jury found Marra guilty of being involved in a commission discussion about a development deal in which she had a stake in.
