BROWNSVILLE — The South Texas International Economic Development Alliance is discussing way to boost global trade, commerce and investment in our region.
The group met on Monday to exchange ideas on how to make it happen. Members of the coalition discussed the possibility of a business recruitment mission from Brownsville to China to see what possibilities lie abroad. San Antonio Council Woman Elisa Chan stated, "In order to compete on the global stage we need to figure out a strategic way for us to be relevant, but also to be a full force and with international economic development. I think it's a way for us to create a new avenue for investment, but also to create jobs as a net gain without negativity impacting other cities."
In addition to Brownsville, cities participating in the alliance include San Antonio, Laredo, McAllen, Edinburg, Corpus Christi and San Marcos.
