Citizens Graduate from Annual Citizen's Police Academy
The Brownsville Police Department held a ceremony for 15 citizens who graduated from the 21st Annual Citizen's Police Academy.
Brownsville Police Chief Carlos Garcia and Mayor Tony Martinez participated in the graduation along with others who assisted in the program. The group met every Thursday for ten weeks and the free class taught about police procedures such as criminal prosecution, self defense and the use of firearms. Police say this is one more way of interacting with the community and teaching them about police practices. Another class is planned for September and this time in Spanish.
