A downtown church in Brownsville is looking like something out of a science fiction movie these days.

The St. Thomas Church, located at the intersection of Jefferson and 2nd street, will be draped in yellow tarps and closed this week. Pest control workers spray chemicals inside the church to kill wood termites which church officials say may be wearing down the church's structure.

Pest control experts say these types of termites are very common in downtown Brownsville and stress that if termite infestations are not treated properly, building could be damaged to the point of collapse.
