Skunk sprays gifts headed for needy children.
Volunteers for Oklahoma's Operation Christmas have been collecting toys for the last year, but when they went to retrieve them from storage, volunteers were blown away, literally.
According to Event Coordinator Peggy Christian the gifts had been sprayed by a skunk.
The skunk soiled $16,000 worth of Beanie Babies, toys and clothing earmarked for hundreds of needy children.
"We cried. Now we're hoping and praying that the smell will go away," Christian says.
The toys have been airing out in the Oklahoma wind for two days, but many still wreak.
Volunteers are opening the packages and fighting the "skunk funk" with air freshener.
Time is running out; these toys are suppose to be distributed to a record 850 kids this Friday.
Unless the smell disappears or more donations pour in, it could be a bleak Christmas for the less fortunate children of McClain County.
