CDC issues winter weather advisory.

The frigid temperatures are only affecting Texas but are gripping much of the nation it's important that you take precautions to protect yourself.

The CDC has issued a winter weather advisory with some helpful tips. The most serious problems come from extended exposure to cold temperatures and its important to get medical attention. If someone has frostbite or hypothermia symptoms are shivering, confusion, memory loss, slurred speech and drowsiness. They remind you to get cars out of the garage before warming them up to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.

If you must travel in icy conditions, experts suggests taking a cell phone, a compass and maps, and let people know where you are going and which route you'll take.
