CBP officers seize $1 million In liquid methamphetamine

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge intercepted an alleged load of liquid methamphetamine.

CBP officers discovered the alleged narcotics, valued at approximately $1,036,800, hidden within liquid-filled balls discovered in a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

“This would-be-smuggler allegedly attempted to bring decorative balls filled with alleged liquid methamphetamine into the country. I congratulate our officers for their diligence in detecting and keeping these dangerous drugs out of the country and away from the streets of our communities,” said David Moreno, CBP acting Port Director, Brownsville.

On Wednesday, May 28, 2014 CBP officers working at the primary inspection booth at Brownsville and Matamoros International Bridge came in contact with a 43-year-old woman as she attempted to enter the country as the driver of a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee. A CBP officer’s primary examination resulted in the woman, identified as a citizen of Mexico who resides in Brownsville, Texas being referred to CBP secondary for further examination. While in secondary, CBP officers discovered five boxes, each containing 12 liquid-filled decorative balls within the vehicle among numerous other party supplies. CBP officers removed the 60 balls which held a combined total weight of 32.4 pounds of alleged liquid methamphetamine.

The alleged load of methamphetamine from this seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $1,036,800. CBP officers turned the woman over to U.S. Homeland Security Investigations special agents for further investigation. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle in this enforcement action.

CBP Field Operations at Brownsville Port of Entry is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations.
