CBP officers at Progreso port of entry arrested La Feria man wanted for sexual assault
PROGRESO, TX — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Progreso International Bridge apprehended a man on an arrest warrant for failure to appear from a case involving sexual assault from Cameron County, in Brownsville, Texas.
“CBP officer’s primary checks identified Gilberto Delfino Villanueva as a wanted person. This wanted fugitive will face pending charges in Cameron County thanks to the outstanding vigilance by our CBP officers," said Carlos Rodriguez, CBP Port Director, Progreso/Donna Port of Entry.
On Monday, August 11, a CBP officer’s query of a pedestrian on primary at the Progreso International Bridge resulted in a possible active arrest warrant for a man identified as Gilberto Delfino Villanueva. Mr. Villanueva, a 28 year-old United States citizen who resides in La Feria, Texas was referred for a secondary examination and confirmation of the active arrest warrant. A CBP officer’s secondary checks confirmed the active warrant for failure to appear from a case involving sexual assault from Cameron County.
Pending charges for Gilberto Delfino Villanueva are related to a failure to appear charge from Cameron County for a case involving sexual assault. CBP officers arrested Gilberto Delfino Villanueva and subsequently turned him over to the custody of the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office. Gilberto Delfino Villanueva was transported to the Hidalgo County Jail pending transport to Cameron County jail.
