They want the Cameron County elections office audited and they're sending their message to the Elections Commission of Cameron County by way of a petition.

"We feel it's time for the Elections Commission of Cameron County to take responsibility for the elections department. Over the last two years we've had a county judge race that had to be recounted several times, we've had two elections contest trials now and there are so many irregularities within the office that are questionable," says Mary Helen Flores, Citizens Against Voter Abuse, President.

CAVA, a non partisan group, are advocates of fair, clean elections, and they think it starts with the man at the top, Elections Administrator, Roger Ortiz.

"We want a higher standard; we want higher credentials required from anyone who is going to be considered for the position," says Flores.

Flores and members of CAVA feel what's going on in the elections office is a mix of incompetence, complacency and voter fraud.

They're hoping with the petition the Elections Commission will contact our state authorities.

“We would like our Secretary of State and Attorney General Office representatives to observe the November elections," says Flores.

And then a forensic audit is ideal.

"We want every single system that is used by the county elections department reviewed, investigated. We want every single document reviewed, investigated. We want everything assessed and reviewed, documented by state agencies to see what's going on here because something is wrong," stresses Flores.

CAVA is hoping to get at least five-thousand signatures. The goal is to illustrate the overwhelming desire of Cameron County voters to get cleaning up the electoral process in our community a top priority.

If you're interested in signing the petition, CAVA will be set up at Veterans' Park off of Central Blvd in Brownsville every Monday at 6pm through October 11th.

What about a petition in Harlingen? San Benito? SPI? Port Isabel-Laguna Vista? Sure we could double the 5,000 votes and send a real message! This entire county is a cesspool and needs to be cleaned up! Thank you, CAVA, for doing your share!
