Security camera shows woman stealing Salvation Army donation kettle.

A Minnesota woman is facing a misdemeanor theft charge after police say she stole a red kettle filled with money for the Salvation Army from inside one of the charities thrift stores on Monday.

"If you watch she kind of messes with the bag a little bit then walks out," said Assistant Store Manager Brad Dahlke while looking at surveillance video of the crime.

According to police, the 29-year-old allegedly stuffed a red kettle under a large shopping bag then walked out of the store.

"It does happen once or twice every Christmas season," says Dahlke.

Dahlke says Simmons had just used vouchers to buy clothes at his Salvation Army Thrift Store in Southeast Rochester when she took the kettle, the same place the money inside that kettle helps support.

"People are stealing from the less fortunate it what they're doing," Dahlke notes.

Police eventually found the kettle unopened in Simmons trunk Monday night with all of the money inside.

Still for the Salvation Army, "It's tough to loose anything," admits Jeff Urban a Volunteer Coordinator with the organization. "It is sad but that's how things are these days."
