Caught On Cam Flipping Dean
Middle school dean caught "giving the finger" to students.
School district officials are investigating a Florida middle school dean who they said was caught on video giving a student the middle finger.
A cell phone video caught Freedom Middle School First Year Dean Jason Gines walking by a student and giving him the middle finger while other students laughed and screamed at what he did.
The district said Gines started working for Orange County in 2005 at the Meadow Woods Middle School.
He was then transferred to the district's English for Speakers of Other Languages Department in 2007.
Local parents said Gines should have known better.
“I was surprised because we send the kids to school to learn how they need to respect themselves and others. I think that is not the right way because he is letting them know it's all right, they can do it,” parent Adriana Restredo said.
“As an educator, as a parent, that is very distressing. Because even if you want to establish a rapport with a student, there are other ways to establish that rapport,” parent Victoria Tierney said.
The video, which was shot by a student March 1, was posted on YouTube last week.
The district declined to say if Gines will be fired because of the incident.
