Mother and son hit by bullets when gun battle erupts on Philadelphia street.

A Philadelphia mother and son are recovering at Hahnemann University Hospital after being shot on the sidewalk Sunday.

Kia Rogers, and 15-year-old son Dykeem were standing behind a mailbox near their home when they were hit by stray bullets.

It happened Sunday night around 6:30 p.m.

A shooter on foot exchanged gunfire with someone in a maroon sedan according to investigators.

Police say the 36-year-old woman was shot once in the left knee.

The teen was shot once in the back.

Rogers' husband says both mom and son are doing well.

Neighbor Beauford Davis said he spoke to Kia Rogers moments before the shooting.

"She said, 'leave this area right now because they are going to start shooting right around here,'" said Davis. "Then ten minutes later they started shooting."

Police believe the victims were innocent bystanders caught in a crossfire.

No arrests have been made.
