(NECN) Cape Cod is preparing for an unwelcome visitor this Fourth of July.

Tropical Storm Arthur's threat has prompted the town of Barnstable, Massachusetts, to cancel its annual fireworks display for the first time in nearly 20 years.

Town manager Tom Lynch says the decision to cancel the show, which costs around $40,000, is partly due to cost, but mainly due to safety.
