Campaign Trail: Early Voting Opens

Voters are already heading to the polls in some states.

In Iowa Friday First Lady Michelle Obama kicked off what she hopes becomes a stampede.

The First Lady sent voters to a satellite voting site across the street from her Cedar Rapids rally.

Early voting started yesterday in the battleground state, and the turnout is breaking records.

Most of these early voters say they're voting Obama.

Mitt Romney trails in Iowa polls, and in the other swing states where this election will be decided.

"110 electoral votes all total in these nine battleground states, and we're going to see, look - Romney needs a shift of the whole discussion in reframing the campaign," says NBC/Marist pollster Lee Miringoff.

A clear debate victory next week could do that.

Aides say Romney plans to fact-check the president.

Still, even if Romney does have a terrific debate, it'll be too late to change some minds: Those in Iowa who have already voted.

Every week between now and November more voters in more states will cast ballots, putting pressure on Romney to turn things around in the first debate.
