CAMERON COUNTY - For the first time in more than 10 years all Cameron county jail facilities are in compliance with the Texas Commission of Jail Standards.

The jail was previously not in compliance because of several issues including structural problems, overcrowding  and not providing enough beds for inmates. The sheriff says all those problems have been fixed by adding 352 beds and transferring more than 100 inmates. Cameron County Sheriff Omar Lucio stated, "They come by on October 24th, inspected the jails and found out everything was fine and it made us extremely happy."
