Extreme drought conditions and high winds are causing a high fire danger across Cameron county and that has caused the sixth extension of the counties burn ban.

Under the burn ban, you cannot burn anything outdoors and Cameron County Emergency Management Coordinator, Johnny Cavazos says, in March, conditions went from dry to severe drought. That makes fires more prone to start and continue to burn easier.

With the burn ban in effect you are not allowed to burn leaves, trash, brush, or anything else, for the next 14 days and if you do, you could face a fine of up to $500 dollars.
