The State of Texas added nearly 30,000 jobs, yet unemployment numbers are still pretty high in the Lone Star state at 8.4%.

Hitting even closer to home, unemployment numbers in both Cameron and Hidalgo county are at the top of the list for the highest unemployment figures. For July both counties peaked at between 12.7% and 13%, however, there is some good news. Numbers have actually shown a slight improvement by two tenths of a percent over the last month. Executive Director of Cameron County Workforce Solution, Pat Hobbs, says, "There's an influx of Mexican citizens moving from Mexico and they have pesos and they aren't afraid to spend them, it might be due to the influx of Mexican nationals in the area."

Hobbs says more customers at various businesses means employers are having to hire more workers, be it seasonal workers or long term. Any improvement in the unemployment numbers is one the county will take.
