Record online holiday sales trigger record shipping day.

It's been a busy online shopping season and that's translating into record setting numbers for the companies that ship those purchases.

FedEx expects to transport 17 million packages today, twice its normal volume.

It's all part of the $24 billion spent online so far this holiday season.

Online analysts at COMSCORE say the cyber shopping season is peaking right now.

"We might just see the strongest day ever this week, even surpassing what we saw on Cyber Monday a couple of weeks ago," predicts COMSCORE chairman Gian Fulgoni.

It's an indication that consumers are feeling better about the economy.

A recent CNBC survey predicts double-digit growth in holiday spending this year.

That in turn translates to jobs.

UPS has hired over 50,000 seasonal workers to help move goods, cloud publisher Shutterfly, which earns nearly half its revenue in the 4th quarter, adds 1,500 hundred employees for the holidays nd FedEx says its holiday hiring will be up nearly 18 percent over last year.

Procrastinators still have plenty of time before christmas.

Deadlines for free shipping don't hit until next week and brick and mortar retailers still expect heavy sales numbers as shoppers look for last minute bargains.
