Fire shut down a famous landmark and seafood restaurant on South Padre Island.
On Thursday morning, Dirty Al's was in flames and firefighters raced to the scene putting the fire out. It happened about 6:45 am at the bait shop and restaurant owned by Al Salazar. Firefighters say, the blaze started in the attic, where some of the restaurants food was stored.
South Padre Island, Port Isabel, and Laguna Vista Fire Departments, responded to the scene. A total of 20 firefighters put out the fire within 30 minutes.
Al Salazar has owned the restaurant for the last 5 years and says he hopes to reopen by the end of the summer.
